The first session of the Northern Neck Baptist Association was held at Zion Lottsburg on September 29th, 1877, and consisted of seven churches coming together to organize the Association. While no business was transacted, this was our starting point. Those churches were:

As stated in Article III of the original Constitution, the objective of the Association was to promote harmony, piety, and usefulness of the churches within its bounds, to encourage the formation and growth of the Sunday School, to advance the ministry and the people, and to lend its aid for the universal establishment of the Redeemer’s Kingdom on earth by missionary endeavor. Earliest records indicate as many as 37 churches participated in the Association at one time. The Northern Neck Baptist Association now comprises thirty churches in Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond, and Westmoreland counties. The Association comprises five Commissions: 1. The Commission of the Churches - The Baptist Association of the Northern Neck A. The Ushers’ Unit2. The Commission of Women’s Work—The Women’s Missionary and Education Convention A. Youth Ministry B. Nurses’ Unit and Health Ministry3. The Commission of Sunday School—The Northern Neck Berean Sunday School Convention4. The Commission of Deacons and lay-leaders—The Northern Neck Baptist Deacons’ Union 5. The Commission of Ministers —The Northern Neck Ministers Conference The Preamble sets forth the purpose and mission of the Northern Neck Baptist Association and its Commissions. We, the member churches of the Northern Neck Baptist Association, strive to promote and perfect a program of effective witnessing according to the example of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, by His concern for all man-kind throughout His earthly ministry: pledge ourselves to fulfill the commands of Christ as recorded in Matthew 25:35-40, “To minister to the hungry, the thirsty, the naked, the stranger, the prisoner the poor in spirit,” to be a resource to the member churches, to lend support to Virginia Union University, The Baptist General Convention, the Lott Carey Convention and the Children’s Home of Virginia Baptist.
